About MilletRoot

MilletRoot is the guide we wished existed when we switched our own kitchens to millets: honest nutrition facts, recipes that survive a weekday, and buying advice based on products we actually ordered, cooked, and compared.

Our Story

MilletRoot started in 2024 in a Bengaluru kitchen with one bag of barnyard millet and a simple question: why is reliable, practical information about millets so hard to find? Most articles repeated the same five facts, and product pages told us everything except what the grain was like to cook and eat.

So we started testing. Every variety, side by side. Every recipe, cooked more than once. Every product, bought with our own money. What began as private notes became this site, now covering all seven major millet varieties with recipes, nutrition breakdowns, and independently tested buying guides.

What We Stand For

🧪

Actually Tested

Every recipe is cooked in a home kitchen at least twice before publishing. Every reviewed product is ordered, weighed, cooked, and tasted. If we have not tried it, we say so.

🥼

Expert Reviewed

Health and nutrition articles are reviewed by a registered dietitian before they go live, and every page shows who wrote and reviewed it, with dates.

🤝

Honest Recommendations

We earn a small commission when you buy through our links, at no extra cost to you. That never decides what we recommend, and we publish the cons as prominently as the pros.

How We Test Products

We buy it ourselves

Products are purchased at retail price from the same platforms you would use. Brands cannot pay to be included or excluded.

We cook with it for at least two weeks

Texture, aroma, cooking time, and how the grain behaves in real dishes: khichdi, dosa, porridge, and plain steamed.

We compare it side by side

Each product is scored against direct alternatives on quality, packaging, value for money, and consistency between batches.

We keep it updated

Prices carry a "last checked" date, and we re-test category winners when new products or reformulations appear.
